Film Review

Annabelle the creation

Annabelle the creation is a prequel to the very first Annabelle. It is directed by David F. Sandberg This film is definitely in 1943 and is about a former toy maker, Mr Mullins and his wife Mrs Mullins, who welcome a nun and six girls from an orphanage, into their home. Prior to the arrival of the children, Mr and Mrs Mullins had a young daughter, "Bee"',who was killed in a car accident, at the age of seven.  They soon realise they never truly lost their daughter, when one of the orphans discovers an old doll, which continues to terrorise everybody, before taking control of Janice's body.

The movie as a whole was very well made, it used many sound effects to create suspense, and also used a lot of fast camera shots to accompany the music, which then created the atmosphere of the scene. One particular scene, when Janice was being terrorised by the doll, Annabelle, they used a lot of quick camera shots, to show that this scene was full of panic and suspense. They also used high angle shots in this scene, to show the doll had more power over Janice.

Another shot that was commonly used in this film, was a point of view shot. This was used at times, when something paranormal was going to happen, or if they were trying to build up a lot of suspense and nothing unusual actually happening.

This was a very well made film, as the cameras were able to capture every moment and leave you hiding under a blanket scared. The music really helped build the scenes up, because they used incidental music a lot, especially when abnormal things were happening in the scene. It also helped they had a good range of actors, most of them commonly appearing in other well known horror movies, e.g Lulu Wilson in Ouija.

I would definitely recommend this film to other people, because it is very well made and also has a strong story line. It also cleverly fits in with the first Annabelle, despite Annabelle the creation being a prequel. You can tell how they fit together, as Annabelle the creation shows the very first scene of the first Annabelle right at the end.
