Three Depict Film Review

Creator

It is a very simplistic film, not using many different camera shots or movement. It uses a long/medium shot on the play doh’s at the beginning of the film. It also uses close ups to draw the viewers’ attention to what is going on in this specific frame, instead of constantly using a long shot the whole time. No special lighting is used during the animation, but the lighting is bright and makes the picture/frame clear.

I also really liked this film. The meaning and purpose of this film is to show how you cannot create a new idea without somebody else coming along, to try and steal it from you, or to attempt to take credit for your work, leaving you in the ‘shadows’. Overall in the beginning of the film, it is showing that by constantly stealing someone’s idea and taking credit for them, that they will eventually run out of ideas and just give up, causing their self-esteem to decrease, this also means that the person who takes credit will eventually be left with nothing, as they’ll have no new creations to take credit for and claim as their own. By the end of the film, it shows the red play doh, which has been creating new creations, that there is barely any of them left, and they make one more creation, which is then claimed by the blue play doh leaving nothing left, symbolising that the red play doh has nothing left to give and has given up, leaving the blue play doh wearing all the creations as if they are their own inventions. It is showing jealousy, as the blue play doh is unable to create/invent anything on their own, leading them to become angered and jealous, which is their reason to why they then steal their friend’s creations. This film is pointing out a real world problem in life.

Blue face

Long shot – Uses a pan at the opening
Point of view shot – Of the phone
Shows time – Shows day to night
The long shot is used at the very beginning of the video. The video starts off using a pan, which is used to show a character/animation, called ‘Blue face’, because its face is constantly lit up by the projecting blue screen of their phone, this is the only lighting used to show ‘Blue face’, meaning the background is very dark, as it is a forest and also used to show what is going on behind us, leaving him in the ‘dark’, as he is too engrossed in his phone.

I really liked this videos storyline, I also liked how it shows how drawn and addicted people are to their phones, causing them to miss out on what is going on in front or behind them.  Not only does this video show how much people are addicted to their phones, it also shows at the very end of the film a bear, which is used to represent danger, and how unaware and also how easily distracted we are of it. It is reminding you that we need to be less involved with social media and just pay attention to what is happening in the real world, not the digital. We also need to be more aware of the dangers surrounding us, and not just the ones on the web, otherwise you could land yourself in danger unintentionally and also unknowingly. During this film, it shows the change of time, which I think resembles how quickly time passes whilst we are too engaged with technology. It is a very simple film, but is still full of meaning.

Meow

Point of view shot
Close up shot
Long shot
This video creates suspense, meaning that it uses slow and fast paced shots to show this. The video uses simple artificial lighting, e.g Phone torch, house lights and street lamp. This lighting is quite dim and dark which helps create the mysterious atmosphere of the film. The dim lighting is only just bright enough to see the girl, meaning everything else in the foreground/background to be out of focus or blurry.

I liked how this video used very simple lighting to create such an intimidating atmosphere. This video shows how easily you can lure someone into a trap that will put that person at risk, just by using a common sound that no one will find suspicious, for example in this video, they decided to use a cats meow to lure the girl in, because most people would go and investigate in case the cat was stuck, but instead it put the girl into danger, or that is what you assume by the fast paced camera shots and because it leaves the video on a cliffhanger, leaving it up to the viewers imagination to decide what happened next.
